Unique House Plans And Ideas

Unique House Plans

On the street that I live on, there are many different unique house plans to look at. You might see an Art Deco house right next to a traditional Tudor and beyond that, a house that looks sort of like an old-style barnyard except larger. Although I don't like all of these unique house plans – some of them are downright ugly – I do admire their willingness to take risks. And with risks, there are occasionally great acts of beauty.

One of the things that I like about living in San Francisco is the unique house plans. In a lot of areas in this country, people use their money to build mega-mansions. Rather than going for graceful, interesting houses that express something, they simply try to build the biggest, most expensive thing that they can to show off their wealth. For me, this isn't the way to do it. The great thing about having some money is being able to express yourself in your living situation. A unique custom house plan can do this.

Coming up with your own unique house plan is kind of difficult – as I figured out myself. There are plenty of unique designs, but finding the perfect one can be a painstaking process. In my case, I had to look at well over a hundred different designs before I found the perfect unique house plans. It actually was one of the plans I had initially considered, but when I looked at it in more detail it was perfect. It was spacious, interesting, and well-designed for entertaining in such a favorable climate. There is plenty of outdoor space surrounded by awnings which protect it from the wind. Since the weather is so mild there, this meant that I had ability To entertain outside year-round. This is a great luxury for someone who enjoys inviting a lot of guests over to their house. I certainly have taken advantage of it since then.

Up in the hills, for example, you can see some of the most unique house plans in the entire city. There are houses that are built around streams in a style that reflects the workings of the great architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Some of these have entrances at the back of the house, intricate networks of walkways, and a harmonious design that seems to fit in well with the surrounding land. They also have interesting gardens, large windows, and other features that make their house plans unique.

Great Decorating Ideas For A Living Room

Modern thinking towards fabric and color is to keep things simple. Cushion covers and sofa covers are usually washable these days. Many people prefer wood flooring and one or two rugs to carpets. Neutral colors for painted walls give a good counterpoint to splashes of color in the furnishings.

The living room in a home should be a welcoming, relaxing environment. It's where we chill out after a hard day at work and it's where we entertain friends and family. The room may function on many levels, as a playroom for the kids, a work space or a dining area. Decorating ideas for a living room must take all these factors into consideration. In addition to being pleasing to the eye, the room must operate as an efficient multi-usage space.

Unless the home has a separate office, the living room may be used as an office too. When decorating ideas for a living room are considered, the room should be divided into its various activity zones. This can be done in a subtle way by using color or it can be more obvious with the use of dividers. There may be a leisure area, a computer workstation and a dining area. Different flooring is a good way of indicating zones in this way. A room could be partly carpeted and partly surfaced with wood flooring.

Wallpaper goes in and out of style and it's hard to keep up. Simple emulsioned walls with a dado rail looks fresh and is easy to re-do. When it comes to moving on and selling the home, buyers prefer to take on something that can be easily altered. Pictures make a house into a home and a picture rail is a convenient way of hanging them. The most important thing bout decorating ideas for a living room is that they reflect your personality and don't merely follow trends.

Clean lines and an uncluttered space is what modern dwellers demand from decorating ideas for a living room. Ornaments should be kept to a minimum; perhaps one or two flower vases and a few photograph frames, a bowl of pot pourri and a fruit bowl. No one has time these days to be constantly going round with the feather duster. Living rooms resemble home entertainment centers as we go out less and enjoy our precious leisure time at home. A unit to house the TV set, DVD player and music system can keep everything tidily together. We tend to accumulate DVDs, CDs and videos at an alarming rate and these all have to be stored too.

Few Bathroom Remodeling Ideas

Undertaking a renovation project can be daunting but with a firm set of bathroom remodeling ideas in place you are well on your way to success.

One of the most popular bathroom remodelling ideas is to repaint the space. The wall color of a room can drastically change its appearance. If your bathroom is relatively small you’ll want to consider painting the trim the same shade as the walls. This creates a feeling of a bigger space.

Accessories are also important when you are considering bathroom remodeling ideas. Depending on the size of your bathroom a large mirror can be both functional as well as practical in terms of adding to the appearance of the room. Many bathrooms are limited in space and homeowners want to capitalize on anything they can to help the space appear bigger. A large mirror on one of the walls will do that.

...here are free small bathroom remodeling ideas and advices...

A great way to add value to your home is to update the look of your bathroom. With the onslaught of the big box home improvement stores it’s easy to find many small bathroom remodeling ideas that are both affordable and achievable.

When you decide to renovate it’s important to begin with a plan. That doesn’t just involve choosing a color scheme it also means budgeting for the project by including every item that you’ll need.

Depending on your own personal bathroom remodeling ideas you can actually make over a bathroom with a very limited budget. It really depends on whether or not you are willing to roll up your sleeves and do some of the manual labor yourself.

Naturally when you are interested in bathroom remodeling ideas you’ll want to give some thought to new flooring. There are many different choices in this area. It’s wise to choose a floor as opposed to carpeting in a bathroom for several reasons.

Bathrooms tend to create a good deal of moisture and if you have carpeting you’ll find that there is a greater possibility of it becoming moldy. Carpeting is meant to be installed in dry areas. Another reason is that bathrooms can be full of bacteria and with carpeting it’s more difficult to remove the bacteria effectively.

For current choices in flooring you can visit your home improvement center. Many of these centers have mock bathrooms on display to give their customers bathroom remodelling ideas. This can help with both color scheme ideas and flooring ideas.

There are numerous choices in both floor tiles and linoleum. The average weekend handyman can install the tiles without too much stress, but it’s wise to consult a contractor if you choose to go with linoleum. It can be difficult to work with if you aren’t experienced.

Kitchen Remodeling Plans And Ideas

A comfortable home to live…

The counter top was in good shape, but it was an ugly color. We found a technique using different painting techniques that created a surface that looks like stone. There is a special sealer that is put on top to preserve the paint from chipping and peeling. The counter top was another large expense removed from the kitchen remodeling plans. Through doing much of the labor themselves with the help of friends and family the girls were able to pare down the costs of the kitchen remodeling plans so that they had enough money left over to paint and replace carpet in other areas of the house. Now they have a comfortable home to live in and will turn a profit on it when the time comes to sell it.

Save money and time choose linoleum flooring…

The girls were able to pare down the kitchen remodeling plans by choosing less expensive materials, which still provided quality. They decided to resurface the cabinets, rather than buying new ones. New cabinets were one of the most expensive items on the kitchen remodeling plans. Another area that saved them money and time was choosing linoleum flooring. This option reduced the labor and material cost of the tiles that where originally listed in the kitchen remodeling plans. The walls needed some minor repair work that my husband was able to complete.

An inexpensive part…

After reviewing the kitchen remodeling plans, they decided that they were going to have to compromise on some of the things on their wish list to keep the project within the budget.
As with most projects the first thing to do is demolition. This was one part of the kitchen remodeling plans that was inexpensive and the girls had many friends that could help with this grunt work. Once the room was down to the bare bones the contractor came back to discuss which parts of the kitchen remodeling plans were affordable to the girls, and would at the same time offer a functional pleasing kitchen area.

Complete kitchen remodeling plans…

My daughter and two of her friends recently purchased a “fixer upper”. They thought this would be a fun summer project and would provide them with inexpensive housing. Much of the house needed only cosmetic help, but the kitchen was going to need complete kitchen remodeling plans. At first the girls thought that if they did bits and pieces along the way that they would be able to tackle the kitchen themselves. However as they began removing wallpaper and looking at the flooring they knew they needed professional help. A friend of ours is a contractor. He looked over the house and presented the girls with kitchen remodeling plans that took into account everything that they said they wanted changed.

Design Ideas For Ranch House

Remodel ranch house plans and ideas…

I picked my favorite ranch house design, enlisted the weekend aid of a few friends, and got to work. It was like the whole project was doomed. I picked had picked the most ambitious of the ranch house designs, a house plan far beyond my ability. Because it wasn't a simple rectangular floor plan, but instead incorporated an internal courtyard, it was hideously difficult to precisely excavate and lay out the basement. And once this was done, there was an unseen problem – the courtyard entrance was so small, that I couldn't get heavy equipment needed for house construction through the door. I'm happy to be designing and building my own ranch house, but I'm glad I'll only have to do it once.

That is another set of skills altogether…

And then there are safety regulations which you must keep in mind. Legal ranch house designs don't just incorporate floor plan and roof. You have to learn all about designing and building a foundation, and that is another set of skills altogether. Then there are fire safety codes, legal load limits, basement design to insure water-tightness. By the time I had come up with a few finished ranch house designs, two years had passed.

There is much more that goes in to layout than you might imagine…

I knew the ins and outs of wiring and plumbing, and knew a little bit about post and beam construction, so I figured what the heck, and gut an architectural CAD program to start working out some ranch house designs. Well, as they say, live and learn. Just learning the program enough to come up with my ranch house designs was practically nightmarish. Architectural CAD programs are used by professional house designers, and ease of use is not the number one consideration which goes into designing them. Whether you're designing a ranch house, or just laying out your bathroom, there is much more that goes in to layout than you might imagine.

Why should drawing and building ranch house designs be any different….

I've wanted to design my own ranch house for years, but was hindered by a lack of architectural knowledge. I've been pretty handy since I was little. My father was always at work out back in his little workshop, and he taught me how to fix and build all manner of household projects so I figured, why should drawing and building ranch house designs be any different. I've never been one to let common sense stand in my way. I thought that ranch house designs would be easier than other houses, because they only take up one story, and so don't require as much structural support.

There is also lot of possibilities if you are designing the back entrance of a house!

Few Extra Bathroom Remodeling Ideas And Tips

It doesn’t even have to be about replacing major parts of the bathroom…

Perhaps the best place to find bathroom remodeling ideas is to have a look around. Look at other bathrooms in magazines, watch home improvement shows on television, and even look at bathrooms of friends and families that you love. You probably don’t want to copy someone, but you can find things you like in many different places and pull them together into your own bathroom remodeling ideas. It doesn’t even have to be about replacing major parts of the bathroom. It can be about paint, wallpaper, and color schemes as well.

Home design gene…

I love the idea of remodeling rooms in my home, but when it comes to choosing things, I either can’t afford what I like, or I can’t decide what I like in the first place. I guess I was not blessed with the home design gene, and I often have to get my bathroom remodeling ideas from other places, and then I have to make them my own. Perhaps that is what most people do, I’m not really sure. I do know that I have a friend who can’t seem to match his pants and shirt, yet he comes up with the most beautiful bathrooms in the homes that he builds. I just don’t get it.

See what you liked…

If you are like me, and you know you can’t afford a remodel at the moment, but you still want to think about it, you can easily find ways to save your bathroom remodeling ideas for the future. If you find something that you like, tear it out of the magazine or even take a pictures of it. Save it in a scrapbook for later. When the time comes for you to use your bathroom remodeling ideas, you can then look back to see what you liked, decide what to use, and then you will have all you need to have the bathroom you have always dreamed of having.

Tastes run much higher than what is in our checking account…

You can also find bathroom remodeling ideas by looking at displays in different stores. I am always amazed by what I see, but most of what I like I can not afford. I guess my tastes run much higher than what is in my checking account, but that’s okay. Perhaps someday I can get what I love. Until then, I am partially content to dream about it. I can afford to change colors and paper, which I tend to do a lot. My husband often jokes that he never knows what the house will look like when he comes home on any given day.

Remodeling Estimates Can Be Done A number Of Ways

Having an overall contractor ….

Remodeling estimates can be done a number of ways depending on the size of your project and your preference. You can hire a remodeling contractor who would contact all the other workers needed for the project and would place all the remodeling estimates in a grand total. This works well unless you have a specific carpenter or plumber that you want to use and they do not work with contractors. Having an overall contractor also does not work if you are planning on doing some of the work yourself.

Remodeling is never easy…

Have you ever talked with someone that is in the midst of a remodeling project? They seem to have consistent complaints. The complaints are that the project is taking longer than expected, costing more than expected and is more involved than planned. Remodeling is never easy, especially if you are living amongst the construction. One way to help take some of the guess work out of a project is to get remodeling estimates. By getting remodeling estimates you will have a better idea going into the project how much time and money will be involved. If you are financing the project, your lending institution may request a copy of the estimate and can even require that you have more than one completed.

Remember with remodeling estimates that the quotes are just estimates….

You need to coordinate that the items needed by a particular worker are available when they are needed.A significant cost that many people do not consider when they get remodeling estimates is to have the cost of debris removal figured in. Carpenters and other professionals can usually arrange to dispose of remodeling debris cheaper than the average home owner. Most people involved in the remodeling business will bring up the issue of debris removal, but it always pays to ask. Remember with remodeling estimates that the quotes are just estimates. Most times unforeseen costs and time issues become a factor in the project. Keep in mind the end product will be worth the inconvenience that you go through during the project.

There is no way that they can be accurate…

If you are going to be contacting each person that you are going to need for the project ask them for written remodeling estimates once they have come and seen the area that they will be working on. Some electricians and plumbers will give verbal estimates over the telephone. These remodeling estimates are worthless because there is no way that they can be accurate. If you live in an area that has several people that can complete the tasks needed, get more than one estimate. Always ask the person to be as complete as possible with their remodeling estimates. Make sure you have agreed on who will purchase what. If you plan to pick out fixtures and appliances, find out who is responsible for arranging the deliveries.

Bedroom Decorating Ideas, Simple, Inexpensive..

We want our bedroom to be inviting, not boring…

Our bedrooms are the private rooms in our homes, and we spend quiet times, just waking up and sipping coffee, reading or talking to our spouse. We come to associate relaxing feelings with the bedroom. When we want to relax and enjoy kicking back, we don't want to look around and say, “Oh, I can't stand this bedspread any more!” We want our bedroom to be inviting, not boring. You might think that bedroom decorating ideas come with a premium price tag, requiring a complete makeover to freshen the look. The truth is, bedroom decorating ideas can be as simple as a change of throw pillows and some new lamp shades. A new set of curtains can change the whole mood of the bedroom.

Simple, inexpensive…

Most of us can't afford to have a professional decorator design new rooms every time we tire of the décor. Usually, it's not the furniture that we tire of, but what is on and around our carefully chosen furniture. It's usually accent pieces, drapes, or simply the color of the walls that lose their freshness, causing us to get bored with the whole room and have an itch to redecorate. Here's an idea which is simple, inexpensive and makes that room's appeal last much longer. This applies to any room, but has particular usefulness as a bedroom decorating idea.

Aim for simplicity…

If your bedspread is the offender, it's time to pack it away for guest bedding and buy a new one. Now imagine. What color or fabric would please you in it's place? “Aha!” you say. “I want a deep blue velvet bedspread, and now that I think of it, some ivory lace curtains would be luxurious.”You're getting the gist of these types of bedroom decorating ideas now. Restrain yourself, as it's easy to get carried away. These bedroom decorating ideas succeed when you aim for simplicity. Maybe a simple coat of paint or stained wooden louvers replacing curtains are all you need. Your beige lampshades might be changed for hand painted art deco ones for an entirely different look in the room in which you love to relax. For less than $100 plus a vase of fresh flowers, you can have a new dream bedroom.

Find what weighs your eye down…

These bedroom decorating ideas require that you start with squinting your eyes and looking around the room. Really! Squint your eyes slightly and cast your gaze around the room. Take different vantage points. Lie on the bed. Stand in the doorway. What's the first thing that catches your critical eye? Is it that old picture you're fond of, but tired of looking at? Your bedspread is pretty, but you've had it for years. In other words, find what weighs your eye down. There may be several things, but chances are, it's not the furniture. You love that picture, but it's been hanging there so long it's become part of the wall. Relocate the picture to another room where it once again becomes a surprise to your eyes.

Kitchen Floor Covering Ideas

A hard surface…

Ceramic seemed to be the right choice for my family. I love the look of the material and you can find ceramic kitchen floor covering in just about any color. However, I found that this product makes for a hard surface. This isn’t the best option for many homeowners.Since I’m a bit of a klutz when I cook and considering that we have a lot of fragile items in this room of the house, we figured that we needed a kitchen floor covering that would have a little give. If you drop something on ceramic, chances are it’s going to break into a million pieces.

The cautious approach…

Kitchen floor covering comes in many styles and materials. Choosing from among the many products available on the market today might be a no-brainer for some of us. Others are a little apprehensive to make any rash decisions about kitchen floor covering for their homes. The cautious approach is often a good route to take when it comes to making this kind of purchase. Kitchen floor covering isn’t cheap. If it is cheap then you really want to consider another product. You want to make a good investment in this element of your home interior.

New wood would give too much contrast…

It would be very difficult, time-consuming and expensive to age the new hardwood kitchen floor covering so that the material would look like it belongs in the house. The other flooring is really aged and has a lot of character. New wood would give too much contrast. Then there is my tendency to be a bit of a klutz. Cleaning this floor on a daily basis would pose some problems. I might manage to give the kitchen floor covering some character but I doubt that it’s the kind of character we want hanging around our home. Hardwood floors are absolutely beautiful and they can increase the value of your home. I was a little surprised that laminate is available that looks exactly like hardwood floors. This kitchen floor covering is a nice option that offers all of the features that I really like in this element

Hardwood flooring is wonderful….

I also wanted something with warmth. Our kitchen is in an area of the home that doesn’t get much sun. Ceramic kitchen floor covering gets cold pretty easily. Although this seemed like the perfect choice at first, we knew that we had to keep looking. We considered another natural material for kitchen floor covering in our home. Hardwood flooring is a wonderful addition to any room. I love the idea of having this type of floor throughout the entire home. There were a few problems with this particular choice.

Remodeling Contractor, Yes or No?

You will not have to worry about different people, the remodeling contractor will take care of the organization!

By using a remodeling contractor you do not have to worry about coordinating the different people that are required to complete a remodeling project. The remodeling contractor will contact the people that are needed to get the job done and will coordinate when each of them needs to work on the project. Most people cannot estimate when they will need a plumber, electrician or carpenter during a project. If this is not coordinated well the project may set for days waiting for the right person to come to do their part of the job. This can greatly delay the completion of a project.

More advantages of using a remodeling contractor!

Another advantage of using a remodeling contractor is that he may have items from other projects that you can incorporate into your project, thus reducing the cost. He may also be able to sell some of your items, for example kitchen cabinets or plumbing fixtures to another person that he is working with. By selling or recycling your old items he can again reduce your cost.

A Good Remodeling contractor will plan everything with you and offer different ideas!

A remodeling contractor is in charge of overseeing the project. His main job is to meet with you to find out what you want to accomplish in the remodeling project. A good contractor will first meet with you to decide what needs to be done. He will walk through your home with you, listen to your objectives and make suggestions. The remodeling contractor will then draw up plans for the project, coordinate what will be completed first and give you an estimate on the cost of the project as well as the amount of time to complete it. If you live in an area that has more than one remodeling contractor you may wish to get more than one estimate. Ask the contractor to be as thorough as possible in estimating the materials as well as the labor cost for the project. This is especially important if you are going to finance the cost of the project. Bathroom Remodeling Ideas

When it comes to making over your home, small bathroom remodeling can be one of the hardest and most involved projects that you can take on. It can also be one of the most satisfying, especially if you are remodeling because everything is old and the room feels ancient to you. There are many aspects to this type of job, and there are some things that you simply cannot do on your own. Don’t let that stop you from having the bathroom of your dreams, but remember that you may have to give more time for completion.
One thing about bathroom remodeling that you may not be able to do on your own is to install things like new toilets, sinks, and showers. There is usually plumbing and some very heavy lifting involved, and that means you need to hire someone who knows what they are doing. You certainly don’t want to take the chance of installing something the wrong way, only to have a flood the first time you use it. You also don’t want to hurt yourself when you are trying to lift something that would require more than one person on any normal day.
You may be able to install your own tile when doing bathroom remodeling, but if you have never done it, you may want to have someone do it for you, or at least assist you in the process. There is a lot of water moving around in bathrooms each day, and you want to be sure your tile is installed to protect your walls and floors correctly. You don’t want to mess up when you are installing tile for a bathroom remodeling. When installed wrong, you lose time and money taking it out and starting all over again.
One part of bathroom remodeling you can do on your own is also the fun part. Choosing your colors and your accessories is always fun, and you can get whatever you want as long as it fits within your budget. You can go with colors and schemes that would work well in a bathroom, but don’t worry, you won’t have a hard time figuring out what those are. Have fun with this part of your bathroom remodeling if this is all that you can do on your own. Make it a room you will love spending time in so you know your project was well worth it.

Installing Laminate Flooring is Easy!

Home décor projects are fun until you get in over your head. When you tackle something like that, you do have to know what you are doing before you get into it too far. You may have to accept that there are some things that you can do on your own, and there are some things that you may need professional help for. Your level of skill matters in many areas. One thing that most can do with a little instruction is installing laminate flooring. Though not everyone will want to do this, it can be a very satisfying home improvement chore to try.
What you have to know about installing laminate flooring is that you have to be good with numbers. If you measure wrong, you are going to mess it all up. If that won’t be a problem for you, this is one project that you can probably do rather well. Some flooring comes in rolls, and that means math skills are a must when installing laminate flooring. Some of it comes in tiles, and when that is the case, things are much easier in that regard, but you do have to worry about cutting the tiles along the edge of the room. That should be simple math though, and most do it with ease.
You should also make sure that you have someone to help you when you are installing laminate flooring. You may need someone to help with tiles so your adhesive does not dry too much before you can get all of the tiles down. If you are measuring out rolled up laminate, you may want someone to double check your measurements and to help you hold it down. This type of flooring can roll up on you when you are trying to work with it, and the second set of hands can really come in handy in those cases.
You may also want to think about taking some classes at your local home improvement store that can teach you about installing laminate flooring. These are normally free for customers, and can show you short cuts and tips that make it possible for you to do a great job with installing laminate flooring even when you have never installed anything in your life. That is not for you, and you are really worried about making mistakes, you can always hire a professional to do it for you. Even better, no one has to know.
